BOC installs HGV LNG refueling station in the United Kingdom

April 12, 2016. Compressed and liquefied gases giant BOC is installing a liquefied natural gas (LNG) heavy goods vehicle (HGV) refueling station at Exelby’s Golden Fleece Service station on Junction 42 of the M6, south of Carlisle in Cumbria. This will be BOC’s first LNG fuel station on an existing fuel forecourt for HGVs in the United Kingdom – and also the company’s first fully public access LNG refueling unit. Exelby Services pioneered fuel bunkering for haulage companies and is now one of the largest independent bunkering suppliers in the UK, handling more than 140 million liters of diesel per year through its five fuel sites in the north of England. The organization sees the refueling LNG installation as an important step into the low-carbon fuel market. “Low carbon is an important part of Exelby Service’s environmental agenda and we are delighted to be able to offer LNG fuel to our HGV customers,” comments Michael Exelby, managing director of the organization set up by his father Ron. The new LNG refueling unit uses cryogenic cooling to ‘temperature-condition’ the green fuel just prior to dispensing into the trucks, to maximize longevity of the alternative fuel.
