Indonesia to build 20 CNG fueling stations in Jakarta this year

March 20, 2013. The Government of Indonesia plans to build 20 compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling stations across Jakarta this year, in a bid to encourage people to convert to vehicles using this gaseous fuel, an official said.

Edy Hermantoro, the General Director for Oil and Gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, said that they would begin constructing refueling stations in Jakarta. The construction will be in not too long a time as it is still currently in the tender process. They will be built in 2013.

Hermantoro added that mobile refueling units would be stationed at Government Ministries to facilitate their operational vehicles to refuel with natural gas.

The local authorities have obtained a supply guarantee for 23.5 million metric standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd). The Government was also planning to distribute 4.000 natural gas converter kits along with 1.000 converters provided by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry. He said about 5.000 of the converter kits would be for state vehicles and for fishermen.

The budget allotment for these converter kits come from the state budget, at Rp 474 billion (USD 49 million) plus Rp 127 billion (USD 13 million) to optimize the program.
